| Qatar Steel records new height in production figures for 2009 - 19 Mar, 2010 | ||

Arab Steel reported that the rebar production of Qatar Steel for 2009 reached 1.468 million tonne as compared to 1.145 million tonne in 2009, thus increasing by 28%. Thus, Qatar Steel is now holding an advanced position among the big 5 Arab rebar producers according to information got from Qatar Steel sources. The company also realized a new figure in 2009 for DRI production, amounting to 1.7 million tonne versus 1.4 million tonne in 2008, i.e. an increase by 22%. Rebar sales volume of Qatar Steel in 2009 recorded 1.5 million tonne, 70% of which were directed to the local market, while the other 30% were exported to several Arab countries. UAE is the first export destination with 220,000 tonnes comprising 48% of the overall exports, followed by Saudi Arabia with 27%, whereas the rest of exports headed to Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman and Egypt. In 2009, exports achieved a remarkable increase when compared to 2008 figures, with 458,000 tonnes of overall exports compared to only 308,000 tonnes for 2008, which is a rise by 48.7% YoY.
